Letter from the President

As the final exhibition of the fiscal year, Diane Arbus Revelations presented nearly 200 iconic photographs and rare archival materials from Arbus' career, the most complete representation of the artist's work ever assembled. The Walker was the last stop on a three-year tour that began in San Francisco and included Los Angeles; Houston; New York City; Essen, Germany; London; and Barcelona. Organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art with the full cooperation of the artist's estate, the international tour was sponsored by the Evelyn D. Hass Fund and Charles Schwab, LLC. The Walker's presentation was sponsored by Dorsey & Whitney and U.S. Trust, with the opening events sponsored by NetJets.

For additional support of Walker special exhibitions, I am pleased to recognize Mpls.St.Paul Magazine for its promotional assistance and Target for its generous sponsorship of our opening events, including Director's Circle dinners and preview parties. I also want to thank Millennium Hotel Minneapolis, the Walker's new official hotel partner, as part of the Millennium on View program, and Lowry Hill Private Wealth Management for sponsoring the Walker's Collectors' Group this past year.

In addition to these special exhibitions, several galleries displayed works from the Walker's collection all year, highlighting the artists and artistic movements that have been the focus of its collecting practice: The Shape of Time, providing a chronological perspective on the artistic developments of the past 60 years; Quartet: Barney, Gober, Levine, Walker, presenting four artists with whom the Walker has developed long-term relationships; Elemental, showcasing Minimalist works; and Mythologies, featuring a number of keynote paintings, sculptures, photographs, and drawings. These installations were generously supported by the Henry Luce Foundation, with additional support for Quartet provided by John Taft and Martha McPhee.
